ShareSpool XL The
ShareSpool XL is an intelligent, high-performance printer-sharing device
that allows multiple users to transparently share up to three printers
without the need for a network. ShareSpool XL allows all connected PCs
to send data simultaneously without stopping or slowing down data transmission.
Once data is transmitted to the ShareSpool XL, the PC is free to move
on to new tasks. PCs operate as if they were directly connected to the
printer.

The ShareSpool XL has two industry-standard 25-pin female connectors
for connecting parallel printers, plus one RS-232 25-pin male connector for
connecting a serial printer. The parallel ports are compatible with standard
25-to-36 pin printer cables, while the serial port can use a standard null modem
cable (TROY offers the TROY-24542D 25-to-36-pin 6-foot cable for connecting
parallel printers). The serial port supports both DTR and XON/XOFF flow control
with speeds of 9600bps or 19.2Kbps.
You can also connect the ShareSpool XL and the printer via an
ExtendedLink connection. This requires an ExtendedLink adapter for the parallel
output port of the ShareSpool XL, an ExtendedLink receiver (TROY-7000RX) for
the printer's parallel input port, and a modular jack cable to connect the two.
The modular cable is TROY-7000MJ-xx, where xx is the length in feet (10, 25,
50, or 100).
The ShareSpool has eight 8-pin RJ45 connectors for connecting
up to 8 PCs. Two components are required to connect each PC: a straight-through
modular jack cable (TROY-7000MJ-xx) and a modular jack-to-PC adapter. For best
performance (up to 23KB/sec, you should use an ExtendedLink 25-pin parallel
adapter (TROY-7000TX) on the PC (a free LPT parallel port is required). Alternatively,
you can use one of the PC's COM serial ports with an ExtendedLink serial adapter
(TROY-7000AT for 9-pin male PC serial connectors or TROY-7000PC for 25-pin male
PC serial connectors) at speeds of 9600bps or 19.2Kbps.
